Don, thanks for the thoughtful post and for everything you did on the book. Your work was very integral to what the book became.

I also think you’ve hit the nail on the head with the 7 questions above. Very thoughtful. In the end, our core motivation is key and you captured that very well. Thanks for being a key part of the book and the group.

Mike, thank you so much for your kind comments. I have learned so much by being involved with this book. What I’ve attempted to do here is capture a lot of what all the book’s authors have been saying and reduce it down to a simple starting place for people to reflect on their role as a leader. Hopefully, these questions will create enough curiosity for people to want to read the book and explore this in more depth.

These questions grew out my own reflection on why managers with similar skills in human relations and supervisory techniques have such dramatically different employee turnover rates and levels of employee engagement. I believe our book offers a perspective that can help managers to understand the difference between managing effectively and leading effectively. Leadership truly is about who we are inside.

Thank you for inspiring me and helping me during the writing and editing of this book. Your leadership has made all the difference.

Don — nice post. Helping people see that what they do and how they do it are equally important for character-based leaders to step into their personal power to make a positive difference.
